SM on the MS?!
June 3, 2009
So let's see... from Monday to now I have had a HUGE shock...
Tuesday I get an email from the Artistic Director at the theater I worked at last season. He was pretty much alluding to me working there again this season and he was checking to see how much I'd like to work. I sent him back my thoughts and concerns about it. Then just a little while ago, I get an answer back from him... in it he says that when he's had more than one Stage Manager, he's had them both work on the Main Stage, like alternate shows and such... :O! Color me surprised! The Main Stage... I never thought that I'd be in control of the main stage of a theater at 20.. well, by that time 21. I mean, how many 21 year olds can say that they've had that big of a responsibility at a fairly large theater? I was honored enough to gain my own stage last year, and then to be paid for my work after only working two shows at this theater. Now, a year later I'm asked to work and control the Main Stage?! DUDE! (That was for you Rachel!)
The thing is, I wanted to focus on my performing more this coming season. I was thinking about auditioning, and now that I have amazing headshots it seemed more possible. But with this now, I'm not sure. Thankfully, it seems that he's willing to work with me a little and I can hopefully still be able to perform with the Studio still. My Vocal Coach was all happy for me and said I deserved it.... I was sort of hoping to get a job with her though. Start working my Communications magic... ya know? Possibly work out some press releases, get the Studio's name out there a little more, maybe help her set up some more shows... get her schedule more set in stone. Get her another teacher to take some of her students (Well, we're working on that one right now), it's amazing how many people want to work with her! I'm VERY lucky I got in when I did and how I did. But who knows... perhaps something will work out and I can still do it. It was funny though. Last night one of her other students commented on something she posted... she posted a note on her FaceBook about our concert and put the poster I designed in it with a note saying I made it... the other student made a comment saying, "i think lauren should be your manager".... HAHAHA!!! I burst when I saw that! Classic! Funny thing is, my Coach and I were talking about her finding someone to help her with stuff during my lesson Monday. I had also explained that it would be easier for her to let go of some of the stuff to me because she knows it'll get done ASAP, perfectly the first time. My Coach's reply to the comment, "... and yes Lauren SHOULD be my manager"... HAHAHA... we both enjoyed that one. I said to her would secretary work, and she wasn't too keen on that... I just didn't think that she'd like being managed by someone half her age... she didn't care! So, I'm pretty much my Vocal Coach's manager now! lol, all joking of course.
So, yeah... that's it for now... I'll update you as things come in... Perhaps I'll video blog again soon... let me know your thoughts, or if there is anyone out there reading this.... Toodles!
